Family Photos

Yesterday the boys and I had family photos done by a wonderful photographer from Kalamazoo. It was cold, had snowed quite a bit since Thursday night, was snowing more during our session, and we were outdoors at a small park near Arcadia Commons downtown Kalamazoo. We had a blast!

We started on a footbridge, went to a kids' play area (brightly colored climbing structures and slides covered in bright, fluffy white snow), and a few other places nearby. The area has a lot of metal fencing that's painted dark green, with decorative designs that held fluffy snow. The old brick buildings made great backdrops, and the snow coming down was big fluffy flakes too. Perfect! Exactly what I'd hoped for! I can hardly wait to see them, but that has to wait until mid-March, due to scheduling on my end...

Matea Michelangeli was our photographer, she's someone that I follow on Twitter and Facebook, and I am truly impressed with her work.

Unfortunately, a nearby bakery (Sarkozy Bakery) had caught fire the night before, and the firemen were still there trying to put it out. This was a locally-owned bakery in an old brick building. I parked in front of it many times during my night classes downtown, and the interior was classic old-brick-building style. Beautiful! I am sad to see it gone, even if I never had their baked goods (they were closed when I was there). After our photo session, Matea went over there and took some photos, my favorites are the firemen, especially the one where his face is full-on. Amazing work in a sad situation.
